Organics & Bio-Dynamics

Organic farming is all about preventing the introduction of foreign substances in the the growing process. The idea isto exclude the use of synthetic or man-made ferilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and plant gowth regulators in the farming of any type of crop. There is a belief among organic farmers that there is a direct link in the health of the soil, the plants, and down the chain to humans.

In regards to the growth of 'organic grapes' there is no legal international definition. The wines are not sulphite free, but will not have any added sulphites (manmade!), that is they key.

The facts for BC Wines:
In British Columbia, 100% of the grapes used in a 'BC Certified Organic Wine'  must be certified as organic by a recognized certification body. This does not mean tht any wine with "Organic' on the label is wholly that.
100% Organic- wine made from grapes that are 100% organically grown, with no sulpher dioxide (SO2) added.
Organic- a minimum of 95% organic grapes, with a low level of SO2 added
Made with organic grapes- minimum of 70% organic grapes, with SO2 added
Levels of SO2  in wines to nbe released not to exceed 100 parts per million (ppm), while levels of free SO2 will be no more than 30ppm
What does this all mean? To put it lightly, pay attention to the label and how 'organic' is stated.
The other tidbit of information is that the winery or grower has the ability to use 'organic sulpher dioxide' in the vineyard and/or winery.
